Companies over 500 employees with data centers or remote
sites that require a high performance, highly expandable departmental
class server.
Ideal Applications
- Server Consolidation Platform
- Remote Site or Branch Office Server
- High Performance, Low Cost Database Engine
- Large Infrastructure
- File and Print
- Domain Controller
- Directory Services
- Wireless Gateway
- Mail and Messaging
- Microsoft Exchange
- Lotus Domino
- Novell GroupWise
- Dedicated Application Server
- E-Commerce Storefronts
- Internet/Intranet Back-end Applications
- Video Streaming
Current Customer Problem - corporate data center As IT
expenditures continue to receive intense scrutiny and justification,
customers need to increase efficiency of data center resources through
server consolidation and centralization. Key components in identifying
the appropriate server technology are balancing requirements for
flexible configuration and large internal storage, while at the same
time improving performance standards to increase end user productivity.
- Need internal drive and slot expansion for server consolidation-
more users per server or more applications per server
- Looking for the optimum price/performance ratio for database and
large infrastructure applications
- Need an all-purpose server to fit a variety of requirements to
reduce the number of different types of servers to manage
- Want to standardize on a high performance 2P server and requires
configuration flexibility of slot count vs. embedded solutions
- Manage a large site and has standardized on a distributed
messaging environment
Typical Use
- Infrastructure (email, file & print, domain server)
- Small to Medium Database
HP Solves the Customer
Problem
The ProLiant ML530 Generation 2 server is
the corporate workhorse that meets customer requirements for
performance, availability, and expansion at a competitive ProLiant ML
line price. An enterprise class chipset, Intel Xeon processors, DDR
SDRAM that is 2:1 interleaved, and PCI-X technology provide a balanced
system platform that optimizes application performance. The ProLiant
ML530 series servers have a long history of record-breaking results, as
shown by TPC benchmark tests. (The TPC benchmark Web site is http://www.tpc.org/)
The system ships standard with 12 hot plug drive bays, and can be
expanded to 14 with an optional 2 bay drive cage. Internal drive
capacity combined with 7 PCI-X slots, an embedded 10/100 NIC plus up to
16GB of memory the ProLiant ML530 G2 can handle a large end user load.
Customers tell us that the ProLiant ML530 series servers let them 'put
as much stuff as possible' into the server for the most efficient use of
IT resources.
The increased workload capabilities of next-generation Intel DP Xeon
processors extend the value proposition even further. DP Xeon processors
not only increase system performance, they can also handle a
significantly greater end-user workload per processor. That means
customers can add more users per server, or more applications per
server, and the system will still run significantly faster than Pentium
III systems. Plus the 512k L2 cache means the ProLiant ML530 G2 can be
used in CPU intensive environments such as database
applications.
Current Customer Problem (branch
office)
A large remote site, such as a branch
office, often has the same expansion and configuration flexibility
requirements as a centralized corporate data center. Additionally, IT
managers require more redundancy and availability features in this
environment because there is not a trained technician on site. As a
result, the ability to schedule downtime through server availability
features, plus access to remote management capabilities, is important
criteria in choosing server technology.
- Require a lot of internal storage capacity for expanding branch
office environment
- Need configuration flexibility of card in a slot vs. embedded
devices to address unique requirements of individual offices
- High availability/redundancy features plus remote management
capabilities essential for a remote office
- Do not want to continually upgrade the server as branch
requirements grow, so expansion capabilities are a key server criteria
Typical Use
- Infrastructue (Mail and Messaging, File and Print)
- Stand-alone and proprietary applications
HP Solves the Customer Problem
The
ProLiant ML530 Generation 2 server has high availability features that
reduce server downtime and avoid unscheduled outages that could severely
impact a remote office environment where trained technicians are not
onsite. The ProLiant ML530 G2 is the first 2P server offering Mirrored
Memory, which is an optional redundant memory configuration similar to
RAID 1 drive configurations. In addition, the same management and
configuration tools are available across the entire ProLiant line,
helping customers manage and deploy servers whether onsite or located
remotely. The ProLiant ML530 G2 features that specifically address
availability and remote management requirements are:
- Hot-plug redundant power supplies (1+1 redundancy)
- Hot-plug redundant fans
- Hot-plug PCI-X
- Advanced Memory Protection
- Single-Board Mirrored Memory
- Online Spare Memory
- Advanced ECC Memory Technology
- Redundant ROM
- Remote ROM flash
- Internal RILOE connections for optional RILOE II card
